Nonprofit Programs
Through skateboarding we develop many skills that are not just on a skateboard. We at Companion want to give back by teaching the youth and adults in our community the skills we developed through years of skateboarding.
Skate Obstacle Building
(construction principles)
We want to teach kids (and adults) how to build skate obstacles where we will focus on the principals of woodworking; demonstrating things like 8 inches on center, a 2x4 isn't actually 2 inches by 4 inches, what is an impact drill versus a regular drill, and so on. By building a fun skate obstacle people can learn real-life skills that can translate to a summer side job, confidence in house remodeling projects, or even a lifetime career of carpentry. Our goal would be to partner with local businesses to provide funding for this program and others so we can give kids an obstacle to take home and possibly even a drill or set of tools to continue their woodworking experience.
Business Building
(entrepreneurial development)
Continuing with our building theme we want to show young people and adults how to build a business by partnering with local business and brand owners in a lecture series where they give their own experiences and insights into their own path to create their brands. We want to encourage entrepreneurial growth in our youth and cultivate it in our adults who were never told to "go for it" or given a platform to see what was possible. Creating a brand involves so many skills that we have stumbled upon as local business owners that we feel compelled to pay it forward to show others what it takes. Round-table discussions with open discourse, guest lectures, entrepreneur networking events, and more; we want to be a hub for our community.
Media Arts Classes
(creative skills development)
Skateboarding has always gone hand in hand with filmmaking and photography. We at Companion have a long history of filming and shooting photos of skateboarding. Through that experience we have developed skills we want to transfer on to others. Taking photos and filming skateboarding is very different than other forms of photography or videography and we want to show others those tricks we have developed over the years. Not only is our Companion family experienced in these media we want to partner with screen printers, other photographers, videographers, painters, and more to spread the impact the arts can have on our community and our future generations.
Mental Health Workshops
We are a community hub for anyone and everyone; not just skateboarders. We recognize the need for community support and because of that we want to host mental health workshops hosted by professionals in that field. Regardless of age, everyone can use an outlet of support, someone to listen to them, or a hand to pick them up; on and off the board.
FREE SKATE DAYS
We'd love to ultimately provide a FREE Skatepark every day of the week! To get there we want to partner with local businesses to sponsor a free day of the week for an entire month, then maybe a week, and month, season, year, and then FOREVER!
Pro Demos & Skate Days
Let's create a fund to bring professional skateboarders & skateboard brand teams to come put on demos, hang with the locals, and give their story of how they made it to the professional ranks.
Skate Camp & Lesson Scholarships
Send kids to skate camp at Companion, Woodward, YMCA skate camps, and more! Create a fund to provide lessons for kids and adults who cannot afford lessons.
More to Come
There will undoubtedly be more plans and programs to come. We have so many ways to interact with and support each other. If there is an idea you have that would benefit our community please share it with us! Please reach out to give us any plans or programming ideas or any nonprofit fundraising events you would like to see.
